How does laser hair removal work?
Light Absorption:
The Lumenis M22 laser emits a concentrated beam of light at a specific wavelength that is designed to be absorbed by the melanin in the hair. Different wavelengths are used for different skin and hair types to optimize melanin absorption while minimizing absorption by the surrounding skin.
Heat Conversion:
When the melanin in the hair follicle absorbs the laser light, this light energy is converted into heat.
Follicle Damage:
The heat generated damages the hair follicle, specifically the structures responsible for hair regrowth, such as the hair bulb and dermal papilla.
Inhibition of Hair Growth
If enough damage is caused to the hair follicle, it will be inhibited from producing new hair. Permanent hair reduction!

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Laser Hair Reduction Hurt?
The sensation experienced during laser hair removal is often described as similar to the snapping of a rubber band against the skin. While individual tolerance varies, most clients find the discomfort to be mild and temporary. Modern laser systems, such as the Lumenis M22, often incorporate integrated cooling mechanisms to help minimize any potential discomfort and ensure a more comfortable treatment experience. We also take measures to optimize treatment settings for your individual skin sensitivity.
How do I prepare for my laser hair removal appointment?
Avoid Sun Exposure and Tanning: Refrain from sun tanning, tanning beds, and self-tanners for at least 2-4 weeks prior to your appointment. Sunburned or tanned skin can increase the risk of adverse reactions.

Shave the Treatment Area: The area to be treated should be freshly shaved, ideally 12-24 hours before your appointment. This allows the laser energy to target the hair follicle beneath the skin's surface rather than the hair above it. Do not wax, pluck, or use depilatory creams in the treatment area for at least 4 weeks prior to your session, as these methods remove the hair root, which is the target of the laser.
Clean Skin: Ensure your skin is clean and free of lotions, creams, makeup, deodorant, or any other topical products on the day of your appointment.
Wear Comfortable Clothing: Dress in comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the treatment area.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Laser hair removal is classified as a long-term hair reduction solution. While it can significantly reduce the number of hairs in treated areas and the hair that does regrow is often finer and lighter, it may not result in permanent hair removal for everyone. Many clients experience years of hair-free or significantly reduced hair growth. However, hormonal fluctuations or other factors can sometimes lead to some hair regrowth over time. Maintenance treatments may be recommended to sustain optimal results. We will discuss realistic expectations with you during your consultation.
What areas can be treated?
Laser hair removal is a versatile treatment that can effectively target unwanted hair on most areas of the face and body.
Common treatment areas include:
-
Facial Areas: Upper lip, chin, cheeks, sideburns, jawline, neck.
-
Body Areas: Underarms, arms, legs (upper and lower), bikini area (including Brazilian), back, chest, abdomen.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of laser hair removal sessions required varies depending on several factors, including the treatment area, hair1 thickness and density, individual hair growth cycles, skin type, and hair color. Typically, most clients achieve significant hair reduction after a series of 6 to 8 treatments, spaced approximately 4 to 8 weeks apart. This spacing allows us to target hairs effectively during their active growth phase. Individual results can vary, and some clients may benefit from additional sessions to achieve their desired level of hair reduction. During your initial consultation, we will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and provide a more accurate estimate of the number of sessions you may require.
